Ten years ago this year The Merchant, Scarborough’s Irish bar, opened in the heart of this wonderful seaside town. The vision was to create a place that was traditionally Irish, less about the shamrocks (although of course, they pop up sometimes!) and more about the community, the craic and the music – a place where everybody feels comfortable whether 18 or 80. The kind of pub you find in small towns all over Ireland.
That was achieved, that and more. The Merchant has become synonymous with a great night out, it has become a meeting place for musicians and a home from home for many customers who enjoy the special atmosphere and indefinable ‘something’ that The Merchant has to offer.
